The
Anatomy of a Race Weekend (Part 4)
Release Date: 20/05/2007
Today would have
to be one of the strangest starts
to a race day ever! We all jumped
into our bus at about 6.30 to make
our way to the track. There wasn't
much work to do and everyone was in
good spirits. About 15 minutes from
the track, the bus hit hit a kangaroo
at 110km/h. Only the driver saw the
roo at the last minute and had no
time to react. The air bags were set
off and crew aboard got quite a shock.
It certainly woke everyone up. The
bus was virtually a write off and
our fuel guy was complaining of sore
muscles in his neck and back. We may
have to take him to be x-rayed later
today.
Once we got to the track the weather
looked to be clearing up, much to
the drivers dismay! During the race
before our first race of the day we
all prayed for rain and to our surprise
it came!
Due to yesterdays finishing results
we started today outside the top 20.
With wet weather tyres on both drivers
felt they could move forward and gain
some valuable points. Michael absolutely
blitzed the start and made 8 positions
in the first lap. There was no where
near as much carnage as expected but
both drivers did a stellar job to
stay out of trouble, Michael finishing
the race in 6th position, moving forward
a total of 19 places. The team were
extatic.
The final race of the day brought
mixed emotions to the team, Daniel
suffering from a hard fought race
and Michael finshing the race in 5th
position and the round well inside
the top ten, meaning he retains his
2nd place spot in the championship.
"After a tough day yesterday,
we fought back hard today. The car
was great and I'd like to thank all
the guys who stayed back late to get
everything ready for us today."
From the minute the last race ends
everyone frantically cleans and packs.
Everyone in pit lane is in a rush
to get home so there is often a lot
of congestion, Winton being no exception.
By 9pm we are all packed and ready
to leave. Everyone says their goodbyes
and we jump in the minibus for the
long drive back to Sydney, where a
lot of us have to start work at 8am
the next morning!
So there you have it! A weekend as
part of the L & H Ford Rising
Stars Racing Team. See you all at
the next round at Queensland Raceway.
