01/12/2007
With the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Championships going down to the wire this weekend at Phillip Island, Ford Rising Stars Racing’s, Michael Caruso dominated the first of two races for the final round.
“After being fastest in both practice sessions we were a disappointed to only finish fourth in qualifying”, Team Owner, Jim Morton said today. “However Michael won the start and completely dominating race one a won by the length of the straight. He was moving away from the field by up to a second a lap and putting as much pressure on series leader, Tony D’Alberto as possible”.
“Eventually Tony got involved with another car and slid off the track”, Jim Morton said. “Tony made a great recovery to finish 9th but his lead has been reduced and the championship is going to be decided in the last race of the year. It’s a great way to finish the series”, he said.
Over 300 of Ford Rising Stars Racing’s supporters guests were on hand to see the team finishing the year in grand style.
“Our team is very keen to progress to the main series in 08 and I think this sort of display shows we are ready to move up. We are still chasing a little extra commercial support to get us over the line”, FRSR Commercial Manager Kim White said. “At this stage we are not sure if our current driver will be with us in 08, it depends on funding. But we all agree that the best thing for Michael is to win the round and show just how good he is. Michael has already won more races than any other driver in the Fujitsu Championship this year”, he said.
“Our team’s charter has been to progress young drivers into the V8 Series and Michael with a strong record in Karting, Formula Ford and Formula Three is very close to a V8 Championship”, Kim White said.
